does anyine know if a 19j turbo is the same as a defender 200 tdi turbo??? they look bloody close from pictures.

19J&200TDI are definately not the same.19J is indirect injection and not intercooled.Many people have had terrible trouble with these and they should be approached with caution unless you are a diesel expert.I love mine and so do a few other enthusiasts.200TDI is more powerful and often more reliable due to a strengthened block and the introduction of intercooling.These engines have a great reputation.Really good examples of either are hard to find now unless you dont mind paying dear.Good luck.

Reading yr post again I think you mean the turbochargers not the whole engines.Apologies!Sadly the turbos are not the same either although theymay have the same casings.all the best

They are different Garret part numbers BUT, pretty much anything is possible. You might find this an interesting read:

Think its the fact that the turbo sits underneath and fowls the steering link on a left hooker so he has put on a 19j that mounts on top?

So why bother changing it? Sounds like a load of trouble for no real benefit to me.

right defender 200 turbos fits up high and are rocking horse droppings. the turbo on a 90j is a very close match and im hoping that you can mount the 19j turbo on the 200tdi manifold. thats the plan anyway
