when you have the engine running and warm, have you checked the small pipe that runs to the top of the expansion bottle, that can airlock too. disconnect it and blow down it to clear it. when your running you should have a steady flow from it i think??? but it can give the same syptoms
 
im in fife scotland and dont know anyone that works with cars and have never worked on even 1 car before this so a bit of a nightmare for me considering whats all been wrong pretty much everything that can if you read my posts

****e innit, like banging your head against a brick wall. just be methodical and you will muddle through it
 
the pipe from radiator to bottle is clear had it off twice and blowed through didint seems as bad when i took it round block deff not as hot
 
your gear changes would be the atf overheating as the radiator got too hot. bit stumped with the tickover, might be worth playing with the tps and stepper again and see what happens. the eas??? i know what i would do but the springs are expensive:D
