... went to see the P38 today, last one on the list and the one that edges it over the others other than on price and from a private seller so no warranty!
99/V 85k miles in the right color combination and condition for me. Spent about an hour going over the car, here are the findings -
Under the oil filler cap, there were a few very small droplets of water however it was snowing moderately at the time and it could have been a flake of snow that i didnt notice whilst i was chatting. The oil didn;t look like it had seen water, but I did wipe my finger round and there was a lighter goldy looking possibly water contaminated look, very hard to tell tho. Stupidly the one thing I didnt pull out was the dipstick to check.
There was an SRS warning light on, the car was MOT'd 2 weeks ago with this warning light on and passed to my surprise.
Air suspension was much quicker than others i had seen and seemed to work very well.
Radio code is missing, and out of use, CD player was non existent and the parcel shelf was missing.
These arent show stoppers, all fixable, but all cost.
Also the battery was shot. Started when I turned up, needed a jump when we were messing about with things.
Air con wasnt the coldest either.
One other thing was there was a mechanical noise, like a worn pulley possibly or the alternator, a whining, not too bad, but noticeable. Was hard to pin point where it was coming from. What could it be?
It drove very well, engine was running for 30 minutes at kerbside, no overheating and needle stuck dead center.
It had a £2k service in the summer and lots of small bits done.
Everything else seemed to work fine, and the car was really nice, and exactly what I want apart from on price.
Anything I've said ring alarm bells?
