Well the K & N is oiled foam, so should shed water ... but I think I'd make up some kind of cover for it, old Heinz Beans tin maybe ... ;)

southdown without a dought i got one on my disco and its fine

Is that a 300 Tdi? If so, how does the Southdown connect to the airbox?

I've seen a couple of mates Safaris connected, but don't like the contortions the plastic tube makes and the amount of chopping needed to make it fit to the airbox ... takes a lot of sealing, well, silicone seler anyway.

i got a southdown on my 300, the inlet hose comes in though the very front of the inner wing in the same place as the sock air intake then bends round to the front of the air box in the same hole as the stock intake

Cheers for that, makes a lot more sense to me that way.

As im going to make my own snorkel how has anyone whos made one attached it to the door pillar etc any pics would be a gr8 help.

I've seen k&N on top of a snorkel before, but wonder how they'll stand up to the rain.
i made my own snorkel out of down pipe,it has a large K&N cone filter atop of it.and to stop it gettin soddened i made a box to house it in,i made it out of platic coated metal sheet(the type you can cut with good tin snips) and riveted all together,on the front part i have a piece of aluminium sheet which has been drilled to create a honey cone effect.the only downside to having a cone filter above the bonnet is when ya boots down its makes alot of air noise.but seeing as i have a straight through 3" bore exhaust coming up the back of my truck-cab directly behind me!means i cant hear the K&N sucking(or anything else) at all.

Stupid question time again. Anyone ever had the air intake coming into the cabin ? Would that fill the car with fumes ? :D

my mate did this on his range rover, bought it in through the glovebox. he just connected a flexypipe to the intake when he needed to wade, then opened a window!

it wont fill with fumes.

Hello

Having found some rather large lumps of mud under my air filter I'm about to fit a safari type snorkel to my 300Tdi (non ABS), have got one from ebay (item num 111072628256). My disco has no front wheel arch liners, would it be a good idea to blank off the original air intake hole in the inner wing? If so, will this need to be welded or can a riveted piece of plastic sheet do the job? Thanks in advance.
