I change a few at work, what I do is get a little bit of general purpose grease (not fckuni copaslip!) in my gloved hand, rub my hands together and give the shaft a nice slow rubbing,! then use a rag and clean off any excess, tbh once the vehicle has done a few thousand miles there will be no grease left anyway, and the only reason i grease them at all is to make assembly/alignemt easier.
Lynall, agree totally that Copaslip would be a silly thing to use in this application, but do you not like it at all? Or do you think it has a place?
I have to admit to using it when trying to avoid rust feckin up a connection.
I find the stuff is bloody annoying, the slightest bit seems to get everywhere, even found it at home in the house before.
I used to use it on brakes and mounting alloy wheels, now use ordinary grease on brakes, again same ac clutch splines it doesnt last, and the alloy paste makes much less mess than the copaslip.
We have been banned using copaslip when mounting truck steel wheels as they reckoned it caused corrosion, cant see it myself, but who knows?

I’ve stopped using it where it comes in contact with aluminium as copper and ally don’t get on. I’ve got another high temp specific grease I got to put on brakes as well but I’m fecked if I can remember what it is. It’s white though. Also some red stuff for rubber. I’m quite well greased up actually

I usually use it simply steel on steel, especially where rust is likely to make a connection hard to take apart again.
And i agree, it gets every where and if you get it on your work clothes it doesn't wash off, unlike most other types of oil or grease.
But guys who work on oil rigs seem to swear by it!

I think so. It’s the stuff that comes in the wee sachets you get in refurb kits.

I get calliper grease from bike shops as car shops don't seem to know what you mean when you ask for it!

Red rubber grease does not degrade seals so is used for lubing up your calliper pots internally....
Problem solved, as my new LOF clutch kit arrived this morning, with a nice syringe of the proper grease... Would be nice to know what it is, but unfortunately Luke isnt a member of the site. Shame.
