hi I'm new on here I'm having trouble with cold starting my td4 soon as its running its fine I've changed the glow plugs lp fuel pump and filter could it be cam sensor?

Sluggish starting can often be attributed to leaking pressure regulator O rings.

Cam sensor failure normally affects hot starting, not cold starting.

Not all glow plugs are created equal. The cheaper ones can be really poor performing. Stick to Bosch or Delphi or other good brand types, if you can.

Cam sensor pal according to land-rover once started it doesn't do anything for hot start .
That's incorrect information.
The cam sensor is used by the EDC to locate the correct firing sequence. This is done every time the engine is started, regardless of it being hot or cold. If the EDC can't determine the correct firing sequence, the engine can't start. The cam sensor normally fails hot, so first start in the morning is normal, but a subsequent re-start when hot fails, as the EDC can't see the firing sequence. ;)

To be honest that's what I thought but land-rover are adamant on the BMW engine it only does cold start ,now you know why I'm so confused pal .

It's complete rubbish. The M47R is no different to any other sequential common rail engine, so needs to know where to the cam is in relation to the crankshaft, or it can't identify No1 cylinder. Until the engine is rotating, the EDC can't get this information, so can't identify No1, which means no injection sequence can start.

However the cam position sensor failing normally effects hot starting, so it wouldn't be my first port of call for a non start from cold. For the few £ the pressure regulator O rings cost, I'd be replacing them first.

Just been having a look at the pressure regulator I'll try that next pal thanks for the help it's doing my head in .

You need to check the regulator O ring for splits, cracks, or deformation. If the rubber O ring is leaking just a tiny bit, then the rail pressure won't build enough for correct injector fuel delivery.

Hi again, well I changed the fuel pressure regulator was fine for a couple of days or so i thought now its just the same turns over but won't start when cold not even with easy start as a last resort pulling my hair out .

It's worth checking the MAF sensor and air temperature sensor are clean and performing properly. Is there any smoke when you cold start or when you restart?
