Just wished to start a thread ref what all different products etc we use, ie, jet washes, cleaners, polishes , etc etc

What polish is it your using?
It scares me to attack mine as I don't want to ruin the paint. It's full of scratches from off roading.

so used meguiars to clean the fuel filler flap , plus if it helps, as I’m retrofitting a locking fuel filler flap to the D3 , to remove the panel u use a small screwdriver, hook and carefully lift the plastic part up, then it slides off

also used the plastic trim meguires for the wheel arches and bumpers

The thing is that there’s a lot of us that have cleaning our cars before forums, so we have a good understanding of what’s involve without asking questions.
But is one black car I’ve been polishing since 1976 along with other newer cars, plus my disco disco course.

Are the sponges different grades? I have 0 knowledge of polish and abrasives other than 80 and 600.. The only two types I use on everything I clean and or sand.

I’m the same with being a novice , if I remember rightly the colours are

Black and Green , Buff and Wax.
Red and Blue , Heavy cut.
Yellow can do Light cut.

This was the set I bought , but got this only for small items to clean, along with that got some Velcro backing pads for sanding discs , different sizes were 1-2-3-4 inch , the smaller ones I found ideal for the Dremel

The thing is that there’s a lot of us that have cleaning our cars before forums, so we have a good understanding of what’s involve without asking questions.
But is one black car I’ve been polishing since 1976 along with other newer cars, plus my disco disco course.

But some are never told to wet the sponge ...

Wow, that is really nice , thats Norman’s park isn’t it, trying to remember , 76 the heat wave

due u still attend the pageants plse or not the same, can’t remember the last time I went to Norman’s park, think it was because it became to expensive for a family

trying to think if it was there that useto have the police motorbike display

understand where ur coming from, however , I’ve learnt a considerable amount from this forum, ie not to use a sponge , never heard of a clay bar or a foam lance etc, etc

same with utube videos as indeed if u don’t know if it’s correct or not unless someone who’s more knowledgeable is able to advise of what and how products are used

in ur second pic, looks like a cortina Ghia in front

"Save water have a bath with a friend" was the slogan. It was illegal to water your garden, so outr next-door neighbour would do it after dark. Trouble with sponges is that they can pick up tiny bits of grit without one realising.

Not really qualified to post on this thread as I tend to only ever wash a car once in its life with me. just before I sell it!
But when I do it, I do it with a toothbrush and it tends to push the price up quite a way!

Been using if for years, people always comment how shiny car is, which is weird as these days I hardly clean it!

I use Sonax wheel and rim cleaner on my steel rims and wife's X5 alloys.
It sprays on green but turns the dirt and built up brake dust purple then scrub or just rinse away.

I remember the slogan. AND the weather. AND then the ladybirds. AND then the tail end of the hurricane...
They were extending the estate where i live and to stop traffic from cutting through the building site they erected 8" high boards on scaffold poles which they sunk into the road which went right across the road. We went to bed with a vertical fence across the road. It got a bit windy, and we woke up with the boards at about 40 degrees. They made a great slide!
Well, as long as you picked the board with the grain pointing downhill that is.
An unpopular kid turned up to join in the fun, my mom used to childmind him and his brother, so we directed him to the board with the uphill pointing splinters. Apparantly, he had splinters an inch or so long in his cheeks!
I can still remember his shout, or should i say SCREAM as he slid down the board.
Unfortunately for him, the words he chose to scream were not "OH GOSH, THAT SMARTS!" just as his mom pulled up and opened the car door to get out to pick him up. She didn't approve of ANY swearing, especially the F word from her 8 or 9 year old son so along with the lacerated cheeks he had a mouthful of soap to contend with while my mom had him over her knee plucking out the splinters with a pair of tweezers

When she'd left, me and my brother were interrogated as to how this may have happened. She didn't believe us when we said that he must have picked the wrong board by mistake and gave us both a good hiding
Still, i'm sure it hurt less than half an ounce of splinters...

There’s a product in The Range and B&M called Elbow Grease. It’s a fabulous engine de-greaser. Spray is on and blast it off. Only £1 !
