If you are going to the extent of removing the radiator then no doubt the fan, cowling and hoses will be coming off, therefore you are almost halfway to dismantling to take the head off.
The head can be lifted easily by hand if you remove the manifolds, but get all your tools ready before you start. eBay has all the tools just need to search and compare LR part numbers. Then before doing anything further, get the head checked at an engine/ engineering firm, they can check for leaks or cracks. Mine cost around £60 for the test and best money spent. Again eBay has replacement heads if needed(there is a guy in Birmingham selling rebuilt heads with cams and valves for around £300 to £400. Good quality finish and work a treat.) After that it's how much you want to spend, around £1k will get all the bits and tools for a complete build if you have nothing to start with. BUT..!! Get everything together first, some items are hard to come across and you don't want to be stuck on a Sunday afternoon missing a bolt. Go for it...
