Hi all,
At the moment I am putting together a part list for a head gasket replacement on my '87 RRC 3.5 EFI.
I would love some feedback on the list. I do not mind spending a bit extra for better quality parts, but if there are cheaper ones available of comparable quality I would prefer those of course.
The parts are found at rimmerbros.com, but I am open for suggestions. (I am located in the Netherlands)

My main questions are:
  • am I missing anything?
  • are there better alternatives for the parts?
  • are there tasks to do right a way when I am there doing the HG's.
Parts:
  • Studs - ARP124-4003 -ARP (are they worth the higher price over new bolts? Studs with Loctite 572? Or permanent with 271?)
  • Gasket cylinder head - LVB500030G -ELRING
  • Gasket head LVB500030 - V8 3.5 composite
  • Inlet Manifold Gasket Composite - LKJ500020P1 - OEM
  • 2 x Inlet Manifold End Clamp Seal - ERR7283P1 - OEM (use old clamps)
  • 2 x Rocker Cover Gasket Uprated - GEG436UPRATED - OEM
  • 8 x Exhaust Manifold Gasket - ERC3606 - Genuine (how bad are the cheap ones?)
  • Gasket - Thermostat - GTG125

Inlet manifold
  • Silicon grease (gasket seals)
  • Hylomar (outside water passage apertures cylinder heads, manifold gasket and intake gasket) (plenum chamber and ram housing)
  • thread coating for intake manifold 3M EC-776 → equivalent? Loctite 572?
  • RTV

Belts
  • Power Steering Drive Belt - ERC675P1 - OEM
  • Fan Belt - 613602P1 - OEM
  • Alternator Drive Belt - ERR2073P - Aftermarket
Oil
  • 10w40
  • 20w50
Coolant
  • Ethylene glycol non-phosphate

The exhaust gaskets are pairs, aren't they? So you need 4? Can't imagine britpart can get those wrong!!
Studs or less stress into the block which is great for the later engines which tend to crack. Didn't know you used thread lock.. do whatever is recommended.
You need new rubbers for the valley gasket and some rtv to stick on the corners

These are the rubbers for the valley gaskets, right?
2 x Inlet Manifold End Clamp Seal - ERR7283P1 - OEM

Thanks for the addition of RTV, I will put it on the list.

Just a comment, 10w40 is not the best for an old RV8 despite what some books might say.
20w50 mineral oil with high levels of zddp (zinc) as the engine is of flat tappet design.

Turners engineering would get you all the parts you need. I’ve used them a few times and the spares they sell are top notch. They sell full kits too.

Go for P38 Range Rover exhaust manifold to head gaskets as they each cover two ports. Much less fuss than OE 3.5 gaskets which are easy to fit the wrong way round and are generally a pain in the ass to fit.
Use only 20W50 oil my friend, nothing else.
Be careful choosing head gaskets. The OE for 3.5 are the single skin metal ones, later engines used composites which will reduce your compression ratio. I can't research your specified part numbers right now as I'm travelling and only using my phone.
Have a look at budget-parts.nl. They're based in Gouda.

Thanks all for the advice. I know the full kits, but I am a bit skeptical towards the quality of those considering the low price.
For the exhaust manifold gaskets: are you guys talking about these ones?

I also saw that I had the wrong bore for the head gaskets. I could not find one from Elring for the 3.5, but found this one.

I will definitely have a chat at budget-parts!
