I've had a Disco 1 and 2 before and driven a lot of Land Rovers in my time. I'm now back on the market for a 2nd vehicle. I had a test drive of a P38A V8 4.6. LPG conversion and it was really lacking guts. I know it's a 2.5 ton car but honestly it felt like the Disco 1 derv and that had needed a new head gasket !
Second question: how simple is it to remove an LPG kit and revert to just petrol.

thanks

My 4.6HSE Rangie was almost as agile under LPG as it was under Petrol. So the LPG system isn't so good on the one you tried or it wanted servicing/setting up properly.
You shouldn't really notice much of a difference (except in your wallet).

1. How does the petrol feel like to drive as a poorly maintained engine is a swine for LPG to handle.
2. Very important if you do not know how to remove the LPG then dont do it leave well alone to a LPG REGISTERED GARAGE.
3. The V8 prefers starting on petrol until it warmed up then switched to LPG via toggleswitch or automatic setup. A notable drop in performance as the petrol drains out to allow the LPG to cleanly take over. LPG is high in octane compared to Petrol and will make a slight pull when acceleration is needed.
4. Check all documents for LPG service history and likewise on the petrol side too.

Very useful so many thanks - I wanted to know what a good LPG V8 felt like. But for that price I had to have a look and a drive - on petrol it was just about okay but had little in the way of docs and none at all for the LPG system not even an installer certificate. It was also a suspiciously clean engine bay but mucky cabin. I don't mind LPG, if it works well.

How did it feel on petrol ??? Mine goes like beep beep on a beep
Well it was 'sufficient' runs very lumpy until it was warm though. On the local autostrada-del-sol (M60-M56 link road) it felt strangely alright. Handled well, couldn't smell anything burning apart from £££

If its bad on petrol then it has problems could be as bad as a cracked block/slipped liner or as simple as head gasket. The fact it got better when warm means its not anything electrical.

I'm likely to be towing a big load

Thanks I thought the same: I said no thanks to that one.
