Purchased a set of wheels and tyres for my 1998 p38 but my wheel nuts are too large in diameter for the holes in the new wheels any idead please

You have got L322 wheels they need different nuts, look on Ebay about £70.00 a set for good ones plus a few bob for locking nuts. You will also need spigots as the L322 wheels have a larger hub fitting.

Hub seems fine no play but my nuts fit the threads but not the holes in the wheels

Incorrect wheel nuts. Simples... the wheel supply should have supplied the correct nuts, and which are suitable for both wheel and hub thread.
