to an English chap living in France!

He's paid me without even seeing it and asked me to get LHD headlights and a towbar fitted for him!

Do I just fill in section 11 of the V5? I've never sold a car to someone from abroad before!

There is a bit on the V5 regarding permanent export, dont know if this is the section to which you are referring. If so then yes, fill that bit in.

Yup! That's the one!

And for you to be completely secure you should prepare yourself a sale document which specifies:

The full name and address of seller and buyer;

The full details of the vehicle, ie reg number, VIN and description;

The actual date and time the sale takes place.

Then both of you sign it and each has a signed copy.

I buy a number of cars in the UK and always prepare this style of document (in French and English). The registered keeper then sends a photocopy of this with the export slip to the DVLA to ensure that they are no longer responsible for the vehicle and any traffic infringements linked with it.
