Hi...I've got the same D2 as you and it looks great too. Had it now for 6 months & you wouldn't believe the amount of niggly little problems I've had to sort out. This morning for example I changed the transfer box oil myself for the first time.....took most of the morning but was great fun. I would advise people NOT to buy a D2 if you want a reliable daily runaround as they do give trouble.
Keep the faith.
Don't agree with these sentiments at all. Must have had perhaps 4 TD5's of various specs and configurations and all have been great and none have let me down.
The very first thing I do when I get a new-to-me TD5 is to go through it with a fine tooth comb.
Very often I've found that even though they are supposed to have been serviced regularly, they just haven't ! Some peoples idea is an engine oil and filter change.
So as with the latest one I got 3 weeks ago I:
1. Changed the engine oil and spin-off filter, currently still has old rotor filter I the two fixing screws feel 'dangerously' tight;
2. New air filter;
3. New main gearbox oil; loads of iron filings on the sump magnet indicating lack of servicing;
4. New transfer box oil - only had about 0.3 of a ltr of oil in it
5. Both diffs oil renewed - existing oil was in poor nick.
6. Checked front and rear brakes - front discs & pads satisfactory; rear discs need replacing, pads OK but will be replaced;
7. Coolant is green stuff so will need replacing;
8. Brake fluid needs replacing;
9. Chassis rusty - got cleaned and waxoyled.
10 Tyres rotated;
11. Broken rear bumper indicator lens replaced.
Now she runs great, starts beautifully, runs with good mpg and no smoke.
The issue with all 4x4's is that they need a lot more servicing than the average family car. Get the servicing right and they are great reliable cars.
My two penn'th,
Dave
