I've been experiencing issues with the rear wiper motor on my 300tdi, so much so that I thought the bugger was broken. Now I'm not so sure.

What I found was that when I activated the wipers the fuse would blow. Assuming that there was a short or an open circuit, I disconnected the three wires one at time and creating a new tourch type circuit and the bulb lit up every time without blowing the fuse. Afterwards I re connected the plug in to the back of the motor and immediately the fuse would blow. What the hell is going on.?!

I've removed the motor from the car to inspect and all appears as it should. Can someone please advise me what I'm looking for, or suggest a way to bench test motor. Thanks

If you can connect the motor up to a 12v source when its off of the vehicle it should show if its seizing or not. Sounds like it might be if its blowing the fuse

Just connecting it to my spare 12v battery.?! Great thanks!

Check that the spindle hasn't seized or very stiff as that can cause fuses to blow but the motor still appears to work (excessive current draw)

Are you absolutely sure you have the correct wires connected to the correct locations? Was it working before this episode or have you just connected it?

Dismantle the whole thing, clean, grease and reassemble. Theres an o ring on the end of the driven shaft that wears, letting water in and rust develops and seizes it up. Worth the effort as they are pricey to replace

Had this on a previous vehicle, stripped, cleaned up and re-greased the assembly.cleaned up the connector contacts and local earth and prob was solved :)
