Thought you had to provide proof of ownership to get plates made aswell as ID??

No doubt this seller has gotten around this in some way, my local guy can do the front but need a decent rear plate

Yes, the seller gets round it by not asking for legal ownership. You're supposed to provide your V5 and some form of ID to get a plate printed legally to cut down on cloning of number plates. Yet anyone can go online and get a set.

but they aint legal - yu rusk being pulled by the rozzers :(

Halfrauds do all sizes, but some are special order.

The guys on ebay sell them as "show use" but make them to a road legal standard ive bought from them a few times

Th big plates are legal as long as the lettering is correct. Black and white plates are illegal unless it's on a car that originally had them.

its not just size, it has to have name of manufacturer, tel number and BS stamp to be legal

But older plates/registration plates did't have this, so would it still be illegal to put a new reg plate on without those?

P

All new plates have to have to conform with new legislation, the only optional item of a new plate is the GB/EU portion. If you opt for the blue EU strip you don't need a GB sticker on your car when travelling across the EU. But if you opt not to have it you do.

Only a really anal traffic cop running low on their "target" will pull someone for minor plate violations. Most couldn't be bothered with the paperwork or negative PR that comes with it. However it might get flagged in an MoT Test. I had a plate with the thin border around it but no manufacture mark or BS stamp. Had to get the plate replaced. If it was plain white (was front plate) I would've got away with it.

I bought a plate from Halfrauds once. Cost me three times what I would have paid on fleabay. The price they advertise seems to be a plate with one digit on it. I don't know if it would be any different with a trade card.
