I just had a go at bleeding the clutch fluid and now the clutch pedal feels very soft and the bite is very low.

I was rushing the job as we have had torrential rain today with only a few very short breaks.
Hopefully the weather will be better tomorrow and I can try again at a more relaxed pace.

The weather forecast is heavy rain every day this week so I am putting it in my local garage on Thursday.

Time and weather is not on my side sadly.

Car went into the garage this morning at 8. Not heard anything yet so I assume it is not a major job, otherwise I would expect them to ring and warn how much it will cost and ask if they can proceed.

Just spoke to the garage looking at my Landy and after a lay down to recover........

They say it looks like the slave cylinder is leaking.
It will also need a clutch kit, Possibly a master cylinder if the seals have collapsed as a result of the slave cylinder leaking. They won't know until they try and bleed the system after replacing the slave cylinder. It might need a new flywheel something or other.

Worst scenario about £1350.

If I didn't need it for getting to and from work, I would do it myself over a week or so, but some of the hours I work there is no public transport and 20 miles each way is a long way to walk.

I suppose it is worth doing. Although it is a 2006 model, it has done less than 42k and did run well and has always been reliable.

At 42k your fly wheel should be ok........I agree with doing the clutch though as most places go off autodata and charge the 6 hours it quotes for doing the job so it makes sense to do it at the same time.
 
I have to say the guy at the garage does sound honest and I know some people who use this garage and they claim it is very good and honest and cheap.

I knew when I purchased it that if anything went wrong it could be more expensive than a normal car.

I don't mind paying if it remains reliable and lasts. I am not one for renewing cars every few years. If a car is running well, I keep it for a long time.

I assume that as the gearbox is coming out for the clutch to be repaired, the gearbox oil has to be renewed?

Just got off the phone to my local garage.

The car is ready.

They replaced the master and slave cylinder.
A clutch kit.
New flywheel.

They claimed the flywheel could be moved by hand so had to be renewed.

Cost = £1320.26p.

My poor wallet! :(

btw: was thinkin' .. seems fairly low mileage for all that to occur ..
well .. the master/slave seals to be foobar ..

was it used for towing .. and much green laning .. or similar ?
( as per d.m.flywheel wear )
 
One previous owner and I don't know how it was used by them

I only tow a trailer to my local tip about once a month. Have never used it off road.

It takes off like a rocket now as soon as the clutch bites. Almost stalled it a few times just driving it a short distance home.

Since having my Landy back from the garage, I have been noticing wet patches under my car, but was not able to guarantee they were from my car so I parked in an area where there were definitely no wet or old dry patches and checked.
They are from my car. It seems to be clutch fluid. That would explain why the bite has been incredibly low from when I collected it.
I shall be contacting the garage first thing in the morning for them to rectify it. A damn inconvenience though as I need to be somewhere tomorrow afternoon. :(

clutch release bearing is a concentric type (bearing and slave in one) ,they are poor imo ,means removing gearbox
 
They have only just had the damn gearbox out and replaced all clutch parts.
Surely not again!

I just wonder what I paid over £1320 for.
