It'll be the tube that the slave sits over that covers the gearbox input shaft.....they will have damaged the end seal and or the o ring at the bottom...........exactly what happened to mine.....I got them to take it back out and do it properly.

Getting a supply of clutch fluid will probably not be possible until I get quite close to home as there is nowhere on or near my route where I could get some.

I got home. :D

It was becoming noticeably less easy to engage the gears the closer I got to home.

Bigger ....didn't read it properly....mine was losing gearbox oil due to damaging the seal not clutch fluid. What make of slave did they fit?......could it be that the quick fit connector isn't fully home?

No idea what make of slave they fitted. The invoice just lists the parts.
I was told that they were "proper parts, not cheap ones". Whether that means they were sourced from a LR dealer, I have no idea.

It goes back in tomorrow morning for them to rectify it.

Just had a call to say they have checked the car and found no leak.
If there is a leak it is possible it was from the gearbox or possibly from the transfer box (whatever that is) caused by them when taking out and replacing the gearbox.
They want me to run it for a week and take it back so they can check it again. They think the most likely thing was that when they were filling the gearbox with oil, some was spilt onto the under tray, although I would have thought they would have removed that for access???

They also bled the clutch again and did get some air out.
They spoke to somewhere (can't remember where) where they were knowledgeable on freelanders and they stated that it is not uncommon for the clutch bite to be very low when new and can ride up after a period of use.

What would be the symptoms if my gearbox was losing or had lost all or some of its oil?

After having the car back from the garage, I was still seeing fluid under the car until Sunday when it stopped. I am not seeing any more.
It goes back in for a check on Thursday.
I am sure the gears are becoming noticeably harder to engage sometimes.
Clutch bite is much better since they re-bled the system.

probably no oil or fluid in now tell them you are going to see a solicitor I bet they put it right and if they do not you want you money back, and insist on it and a small claims court would be great on this occasion

It goes back in for checking in the morning.

I paid the bill using my credit card, so if it comes to a fight, they will deal with the issue for me.

I shall point out to the garage tomorrow that it is quite likely that a seal or seals have been damaged when replacing the gearbox and clutch slave cylinder.
