Right another week another issue.

Whilst driving ma 110 when its in 5th gear you get a noise like air rushing in or escaping?

First i thought it was the air vents as they did leak, but i,ve changed them and tightened them up . No air comming in or out here.

I thought it may be the window seal but nope its good.

Though maybe there was a gromet missing on the bulkhead but nope!

So any body had this issue or know what the feck i,m on about?

It only does it in 5th but its comming forward of the gearbox and all gears work and engage fine!.....i,m stumped?

And for the eagle eyed lads and lasses yes i posted this in the 300tdi Forum earlier as i,m a tit!

Is your air filter and all associated ducting in good knick? While I was still in the process of doing mine it would whistle loudly or sound like air rushing when the turbo kicked in I.e when revs got higher. Obviously this was most noticeable in 5th

Shes in the garage the night getting timming belt changed, i,m just to busy wea work, but the morrow when shes home i,ll check over the airfilter assy. Got new rubber mounts to fit anyhow. She does it in 1st ans 2nd but no where near as bad, But dont matter what speed in forth theres no noise!.

jamesmartin there is no air at all getting into the cab, and i,m 100% sure its engine / drivetrain side.

Its been there since i bought her but i,m just getting round to this task as i thought the automotive faults needed addressing first.

But its there and its annoying me now:)

Obviously they "spin" but they wont make boost (pressure) so you wont hear any noise.
If they spun all the time there would be no such thing as turbo lag.
they spin all the time the boost comes when they spin fast enough to alter the fueling and for air pressure to have an effect

Right spoke to a mate and let him drive ma 110. He recons it could be the Brake vacum pump leaking.

He noticed it due to ma brakes be cack, i never really noticed that they were that bad.

So could the vacum pump be causing this "air " noise and it may explain one of my various pil leaks!

But i,ve a new timing belt and water pump so its all not doom and gloom!

Right more on this fecking "air" noise whilst at speed. She drives fine still but the noise remains!

In the recent weeks i,ve changed the windscreen seal, all intercooler hoses, clamps and pipe.

Changed and dropped all oil and filters.

Changed oil cooler pipes.

Today fitted brand new intercooler and Turbo boost pipe tae FIP.

But still this noise persists!

I,ve had the air filter tae turbo assembly off and canna see any splits or delamination of the large hose. There is nothing wrong wea the air intake to air filter......

Its not causing any issues unless doing over 60 but that fact it is there and i or nobody else has a clue whit is causing it, is doing ma nut.

My last option is to recon the turbo but that aint cheap as i haven,t the time ma sel to do it.......but i,m pretty sure it aint that.

So any body anywhere got any ideas or suggestions....cause theres no much left tae change on the main block itsell.....

Check your handbrake assembly. I had it after 40mph odd the shoes would start to rub making a light noise. check that or another random suggestion brake pads nd disks etc.. ?

Cheers Maxyman, i,ll try anything! but to me and others it seems to be comming from the L/H engine side hence why i changed all the intercooler pipes. Its going to be something small and un-important, knowing my luck . But by christ its annoying me now!

You mentioned the brake vacuum pump in an earlier post - did you rule that out?

If you leave it in 5th and drop the clutch does it stop?

Might be worth alternately taking one prop off and driving in diff lock to see if that makes a difference - isolates part of the drive train
