Morning guys..

Car has gone in for service this morning...

92k miles covered.

Having done:

Oil - 5w40 BMW Longlife 01
Filter
Air filter
Pollen filter
Plugs

Have I missed anything?

Cheers

I was told not to do the gearbox oil as it can do more damage than good... Diff oil, yep forgot about that - will add this to the list.

On the list for every 24 or 30K depending which service sheet you read. If it's the GM box was originally listed as sealed for life. When life turned out to be 60K miles it was revised as above which helps prolong the life. :)

Crankcase breather filter

Best to fit uprated BMW part that never needs changing once fitted

Grease the prop-shafts?

Hope to hell changing the gearbox oil doesn't stuff it as I've just changed mine!

You need to flush out old oil and crap

Don't be put off by the rumers

Mine was much smoother once changing my oil

My mechanic told me that all the crap kinda holds all the stuff together inside the gearbox and TC. He has had no end of issues following oil changes... I dunno mine seems ok for now

So let the oil get more and more built up untill it dumps the lot of crap around the box

Surely flushing the gearbox is preventing this buildup of crap ?
Depends when the last oil change was done ?

Oh we'll, I have changed mine and had no issues, will soon be flushing through again

in my experience, people that talk you out of doing logical things is only because they are not confident in doing them

+ 1

If it causes more trouble then why do Landrover do it and now recommend changing the oil ?

Surely they know what's needed ?

you do need to change oil otherwise it will eventually fail ,if oil hasnt been changed very often it can cause issues ,but theres the catch /best do it regulary

I'm only going on what I've been told by a very experienced mechanic. How often should it be changed? Covered 93k now.

Nope but I'm waiting for the 100k meltdown. Just happened to a friend of mine cost him £1850 for a replacement ....

Don't want to worry you, but no box change and no oil change?
I personaly think your living on borrowed time....

+1

If rather risk changing the oil and giving it some more life then sit and wait for the failure ?

Dont get the garage to do it, do it yourself, it's easy !
