Got one of those fancy removable tow bars to replace the standard tow bar so I don't get stuck as much off road - reomved the old tow bar at the weekend, however, it involved a lot of grinding (right next to the diesel tank ) to get it off - and despite plenty of pre-soaking and attempting to turn the bolts, the heads snapped off and i'm left with two studs in the chassis.

I tried the heating with a blow torch and hitting with a punch option, but, that hasn't got me anywere yet.

Any clever or cunning ideas for getting them out other than a very long and boring drill out job?

I can't get the bumper bolts off either (why don't people use copper grease more?) and can't easily get to those bolts with the grinder, so, that's the next challenge.

can you bodge up a bracket round the chassis with a fine threaded bolt to screw in to press them out? once they start moving it should get easier

good idea, i'm sure i can, thanks

Mine was a pain in the arse aswell. Had to get a drift into the chassis mounts and use a large hammer while spraying wd40 every so often. As for the bumper I cut a hole in the top to get to the bolts.easier than taking it off. I'll put a bit of checker plate over it when i get some.

I used a lot of heat - and heated it up til it glowed then hit it really hard - just imagine its (insert whichever current **** is in government ) and whale the feck out of it, very theraputic.

it took me 4 hours of grinding, whacking, oiling, shouting, swearing, throwing and dummy spitting to get the tow bar off my disco... good luck... :p
