Hello,

I purchased a very cheap winch where the previous owner had the bright idea to run it underwater for extended periods of time and now (surprise, surprise) it no longer works despite redoing the wiring and fitting a new solenoid.

Is it a simple task to take it apart, clear it up and put back together again? I cannot see any tutorials on how to do this anywhere.

Has anyone done this before? Is it advisable? Any tips? It can't be that difficult, surely?

Thanks :D

check none of the windings are open circuit before you get too involved, they tend to overheat and burn out - if they have you now have a new door stay

This may sound weird but I used to bed in my new DC motors under Fresh water in reverse to bed the brushes in and to slightly advance the timing of the fixed brushed motors used back in the day when RC car/boat racing pre brushless.

No doubt its not been in clean water. Check windings and if they check out a brush kit will most likley be needed or at least new springs. But be warned When I rebuilt my old Tmax Superwinch were trying to sting me for £100 for a brush set if you look around then they can be got much much cheaper.
