Non starter (when you need it to!)

OK - been a while since I've been on here and I've grown up and gone from an FL2 to a Disco 2 TD5 Auto (nice motor and I can fit my entire mobile disco business in the back without a trailer :) ) I've searched the entire web for this one, and no-one seems to have a definitive solution so...

    Weird lack of lights

Oooh.....soft porn ;) Thank you - it's going to help I only got rid of it because the clutch slave cylinder was on the way out. It was one of the few Hippo's in the area that actually had a working VCU on it :) BTW - are you a real DJ? The main reason for going for the Disco was to cart...

    Weird lack of lights

Evening all, I've come over to the dark side, sold my Freelander and got a Disco 2 as of last weekend. Here comes the first problem:D (and I've tried searching for this one but I'm either not searching for the right thing or I've missed it). First time out in the dark last night. Switched...

Finally got her but a few little probs..HELP PLEASE!!!

Enjoy the tailgate job - it's a swine to get right and some of the cable replacements on fleabay are the wrong sizes....I know...I've still got the scars. Knocking noise under the handbrake - I'd check the VCU bearings (just done mine). Does the knocking speed up/slow down with the speed of...

    Rear seats folding - base

Once you've got the back laying flat, keep tipping it forward. It's a multi position hinge in the side of the seat, so the back has to be flat before the base will tip forward. To get the seat back up, there's a lever underneath the base which you have to pull before the seat will move...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Yesterday, had the windscreen replaced due to mahusive crack. Turns out it was the factory fitted screen which has lasted 11 years! It's the only part of the car which hasn't been taken apart and put back on (wrongly) by the previous owner! :violent: Fitted recon VCU from Bell...

Freelander 1 What mileage is your Freelander 1 on?

    TD4 on 170k - it's only just run-in :)

What have you done to your Freelander today

Replaced crank case breather with BMW cyclonic mod, changed air-intake hose, cleaned MAF sensor. Roll on next Friday when another replacement tailgate regulator turns up (I'll get it tight enough not to skip off the spool this time!)

    Overrun/running on

BigRog - you might have hit the nail on the head  Early days yet, but spent the day doing various jobs (replaced crank case breather with the BMW mod, cleaned the MAF sensor, replaced air inlet hose)...as if by magic the over-run has stopped. I'm just wondering if moving it while I...

Repair a tail door window regulator

It WAS a new regulator (or new cables anyway) - unfortunately didn't get it tight enough and everything wound itself round the spool (I think one of the cables is possibly too long as well). Off tomorrow to by some brake cable and try that way instead.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Tried, failed and given up on reparing the tailgate regulator :( Will try again at the weekend, but if I EVER meet the guy that thought that system was a good idea.......:scratching_chin:

Repair a tail door window regulator

Aha - a possible lifesaver. I've spent 4 HOURS on this hateful job tonight, and ended up giving up and jamming the window up with wood until the weekend. Now I've got pictures, it should be a lot easier (especially if I can get the tension right, which I think has been my problem tonight).

Mondo Mode, told insurers and waiting, waiting..

Dropped my prop off shortly after I got the hippo due to the VCU being shot. Rang my insurers and they had no problem at all - and no increase in premium either. The problem is, if you remove the prop and don't tell them, you're technically uninsured as it's a modification from the...

    Overrun/running on

hd3 - know the feeling about past midnight - thanks for the ideas though. My "training" was on early 20th century farm pumping engines, where the diesel would run happily without computers until the fuel was cut off (it was so simple in those days :p)...Hell so long as there was compression...

    Overrun/running on

OK - something else to look at, thank's for the pointer and thanks everyone tonight for your help so far. Something I don't understand though - it only "appears" to happen when the engine is warm...any ideas?

    Overrun/running on

Thanks hd3 - that's a useful manual to have (now got a copy this end :D). Still finding my way around the engine at the moment, been on petrol engines for the past several years and finally decided to grow up and slow down  I too would have thought the injectors should close once the...

    Overrun/running on

Thanks teddywood1 and nickcc - I'd had the thought that it might be a solenoid closing slowly...my next task is - where the heck is it? To add to the problems - the tailgate regulator cable's just bust tonight as well :(.

    Overrun/running on

OK - hopefully someone can help on this one. Been trawling these boards and the web all afternoon and can't find anything which looks similar. I've got a 51 plate TD4, which is running for a couple of seconds after turning the engine off...worse, it's not all the time (although it tends to be...

Hello from a newbie Freelander owner

Afternoon all, I've been lurking for a while on these here forums, and you've helped me sort out quite a few bits and pieces already :bounce: I acquired a 51 plate TD4 about 6 weeks ago without any service history, and it's the best car I've had. OK - I've had to do some work on it (it's in...
