    Autobox cooler pipe/hose question.

Just did some fast google search and seen that the D2 pipes run under 2 Bar of pressure, prpbably the P38 is similar? Will try an find some coolant hose and use 2 clips at either end, and attach them to the metal sections of the pipe on the vehicle. In total it should be round a foot long. I'm...

    thermostat for warm climate

Thanks for the replies :) The cooling system seems to be in good order as the temp gauge never exceeds the first quarter of the scale. Will take on the advice and check all the hoses, etc and make sure it has a genuine LR thermostat.

    thermostat for warm climate

Hello all, was planning on taking my p38 to Croatia this summer. My worry is that the current thermostat that is on it is suited for the temperature in the UK. In Croatia the temperature can creep up to 40 degrees and it is a very hilly country. Is it possible to find a thermostat that suits...

    Reconditioning CAV Distributor Pump

Hi everyone, The fuel distributor pump on my 2.25l 1965 series 2A is in need of a good service. I was thinking about reconditioning it myself as I don't have a few hundred pounds to spend on a reconditioned unit. Does anyone know if kits are available for these pumps?

Play and noise in steering column

The steering damper is fine, new one fitted about a year ago. It's not catching on the plastic column shrouds. I took them both off and the same noise still remains while turning the steering wheel. I probably didn't explain very accurately the type of play I have. There is no free play in any...

Series 2A 3rd/4th gear synchro. What way round?

Thank's for the replies! I shall try and get things right tomorrow using the explanation you have given. The image should also be a good guide. Its just a bit frustrating not knowing what way it goes as it fits both ways. It would be a nightmare putting the whole gearbox together just to...

Play and noise in steering column

Hello everyone, I have some play in the steering wheel which I think is coming from the steering column. When I grab the wheel at 9 and 3 o'clock it has movement in it. I don't know if the steering column has bearings, or bushes which might be away. It also make a strange noise while turning...

Series 2A 3rd/4th gear synchro. What way round?

Hello everyone, Was wondering if anyone has done a recent gearbox rebuild on a 2A. I don't know what way the 3rd/4th gear synchro mesh should be turned round? It is very similar on both ends  Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Tuning chip for 300Tdi EDC Discovery

When In think about it, I don't think the EDC has a MAP sensor, only a MAF sensor.

Tuning chip for 300Tdi EDC Discovery

I have already de-EGR'd, de-cated, fitted a K&N air filter, electric fan... Was just wanting a bit more power for pulling trailers and the caravan. It has 195.000 on the clock, hope a chip would't put the engine under too much strain. I might try the resistor mod as IanFiTheDwarf suggested. I'm...

Tuning chip for 300Tdi EDC Discovery

Just came across this item on Ebay. Was thinking about purchasing this tuning chip for my 300Tdi EDC Discovery. They say that the item can be returned if the customer isn't happy with the performance. Never heard of this manufacturer, I know that Tunit made chips for the same engine, but they...

P38, What are the bad points?

Thank's again for the replies. Just an update. Went and seen the Range Rover in question. As soon as the bonnet was lifted up, I noticed that the owner had pre-heated the engine up (usually not a good sign). Turned the key, and after about 5 sec it fired up. Engine was very noisy and uneven with...

P38, What are the bad points?

Thank's for the replies! The "list" actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. Are there any rust "hot spots" underneath (boot floor, wheel arches, body mounts...)?

P38, What are the bad points?

Hi everyone, My brother is thinking of changing his 01 Freelander for a '96 P38 2.5 (BMW engine). In brief, what would be its most common bad points to look out for? I havea 300Tdi Disco, and I'm forever trying to keep on top of the rust. Is the P38 the same in that sense? He will be going...

    300Tdi sagging rear suspension

I actually have a set of 1 inch spacers in the garage. Fitted them about two years ago to the Disco, took it for a test drive... Couldn't wait to get back home to take them off, didn't like the body roll.
