Series 2A 3rd/4th gear synchro. What way round?

Hello everyone,

Was wondering if anyone has done a recent gearbox rebuild on a 2A. I don't know what way the 3rd/4th gear synchro mesh should be turned round?
It is very similar on both ends

Help on this would be greatly appreciated.

The splines are different on each end to clear the gear, have a look you will figure it out.

3rd gear side splines dont reach the end of hub to take account of snap ring securing 3rd gear

I shall try and get things right tomorrow using the explanation you have given. The image should also be a good guide.
Its just a bit frustrating not knowing what way it goes as it fits both ways. It would be a nightmare putting the whole gearbox together just to realise the synchro was facing the wrong way

it only fits properly one way ,look at splines iun the synchro hub both ends then think of the snap ring
