    IRD Rebuild

Evening. Has anyone attempted to rebuild their own IRD using one of the kits on flee bay? LAND ROVER FREELANDER 1 4WD IRD-TRANSFER BOX "ALL YOU NEED" COMPLETE REBUILD KIT | eBay Is there a set of destructions anywhere to have a go at it? I'm stuck with a rear wheel drive FL now, which...

    Freelander prop shaft

This is the confusing part. There was no knocking from the rear prior to them removing the prop shaft. There was a loud clonk if the clutch was released quickly though. They have replaced the cv joint and the bush in the shaft, and now I get the clonking from the shaft under strain around 3rd...

    Freelander prop shaft

Afternoon. I can't seem to find this problem anywhere else on the forum. I've bought a 1.8 Freelander as an MOT failure. One of the things I noticed was there was a loud clunk when the clutch was released aggressively on the test drive. The garage have fixed the faults, put a fresh MOT on it and...

    Wheel swap?

Afternoon. I've just got back into the scene with a S3 Dormobile having spent years on newer Discoveries. I'm planning on swapping the 750/16 and steel wheels with a set of 235/85r16 on a set of steel modulars. I seem to recall that the wheel studs needed changing when this was done, but I'm...

    K&N Filter

1974 109" Dormobile. I think some of the horses have escaped from the old girl over the years, so helping her breathe better might be the cheaper option.

    K&N Filter

Does anyone know if a K&N filter can be fitted to the land rover 2.6 6 cylinder engine. If so, whats the part number as their site is rubbish for older vehicles. VMT

    L/R Dormobile Insurance?

Afternoon. Time is short, has anyone insured a dormobile before. I know they are rare and the owners club have recommended Aidrian Flux, but as usual they have qouted ridiculous price and want the ins and outs of a cats arse to cover it. And at £300 for a limited mileage garaged vehicle, thats...

    Auto box-reverse gear

Sorry for my ignorance, what would that signify? I would hope that having only done a couple of hundred miles since the gear box oil was changed, it would still be clean.

    Auto box-reverse gear

Evening all. My D2 v8 has been back from the fixers a month now. While there, it needed a new transmission oil cooler as the old one split (its done 110,000 miles and is a 2000MY), and the oil was changed in the auto gearbox while they were there. I thought it was imagination that the reverse...

    Floppy handbrake

Sorted it out in the end. Checked RAVE and the garage had wound the adjuster on the drum on still it stuck solid, then turned it back one flat! Set it up in accordance with RAVE, now comes on at 2 clicks and holds solid. Just the smalljob of putting the centre console back in now.......

    Floppy handbrake

Ah problem. Had an advisory on the mot that the hand brake wasn't efficient, they've obviously adjusted it in correctly and not billed or told me. Eventually got the console out to find it looks like I don't have an adjsuter in the cab, just a rubber grommet.

    Floppy handbrake

Brilliant, nice and easy job. They never told me they adjusted the handbrake for the MOT. many thanks for that.

    Floppy handbrake

Just got the D2 V8 back from the fixers where the have completely failed to cure the engine tapping, for the wife to come in and tell me the "Handbrakes floppy". Just checked, indeed, the lever doesn't go all the way down to off, instead springs back from fully down and the ratchet mechanism...

    D2 4.0 LPG/Coolant problem

Thanks guy's. Sounds like another trip back to the menders to change the vapouriser then. I believe the coolant system was bled correctly. It all now seems ok on the cooling front in both gas and petrol as I've driven around 50 miles since the thermostat change in what would be called, an...

    D2 4.0 LPG/Coolant problem

Apologies for the length of this one. My engine developed a tapping noise month ago and after trawling here, I deduced it was worn hydraulic lifters having flushed the engine and used thicker diesel oil to no avail. Into the fixers it went, heads off, new lifters, cam checked for wear, new...

    D2 4ltr ticking

The latest trial has been to add Forte engine flush and idle it for an hour, then oil & filter change. It seems to have worked as the tapety noise has reduced considerably, but it still hasn't disappeared. Interestingly, when I smelt the Forte, it doesn't have a petrol/naptha smell like Wynns &...

    which engine oil is best?

This is an interesting thread. My 4litre D2 is tappety at the moment and a mechanic has recommended changing from 5W30 which the hand book recommends to 0W30, if I can get hold of it. That advise is going in the opposite direction from everyone else. Incidentally, because of the amount of...

    D2 4ltr ticking

The wonders of the web. Found this [URL="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sguzmfgotl8&feature=related"] which although a different V8, sounds as if it has almost exactly same ticking like mine. However, mine is intermittant, some time it's there all the time, others it runs smooth even when idling.

    D2 4ltr ticking

Afternoon, I've searched through forums and found old and new advise on ticking from V8's of different sizes, with various causes ranging from sticking valves through to dropped liners and worn cams, with solutions such as flushing with diesel engine oil (?) to whipping heads off. I'll...
