Just got the D2 V8 back from the fixers where the have completely failed to cure the engine tapping, for the wife to come in and tell me the "Handbrakes floppy".

Just checked, indeed, the lever doesn't go all the way down to off, instead springs back from fully down and the ratchet mechanism doesn't feel right either, kind of grinds when pulled up. The parking brake comes on and releases, but the operation of the lever isn't right

The garage is shut until Tuesday, any ideas anybody? Just looked on RAVE but can't find anything obvious apart from the transmission brake not releasing, but it does.

I wouldn't mind, but it was only MOT's on Tuesday, which makes me worried.

hand brake cable needs adjusting soon as the cable will brake as it bends ,its done on lever end of cable it screws anticlock wise to remove slack ,often happens when people adjust shoes and not cable too or during box removal, remove window switch panel to get access

Brilliant, nice and easy job. They never told me they adjusted the handbrake for the MOT.
many thanks for that.

Ah problem. Had an advisory on the mot that the hand brake wasn't efficient, they've obviously adjusted it in correctly and not billed or told me.
Eventually got the console out to find it looks like I don't have an adjsuter in the cab, just a rubber grommet. Photo0136.jpg

The tapping noise could be a stcking hydraulic lifter, my american van had this so i put some flushing soloution in with the oil got it up to temp and then did an oil and filter change since then no tapping so you could try that

Sorted it out in the end. Checked RAVE and the garage had wound the adjuster on the drum on still it stuck solid, then turned it back one flat! Set it up in accordance with RAVE, now comes on at 2 clicks and holds solid. Just the smalljob of putting the centre console back in now.......
