    IRD interchangeability

Thanks Nodge. Any idea if the Td4 auto IRD is also compatible with the L-Series? Not sure wether to rebuild the worn out IRD or replace it with a later Td4/V6 IRD they tend to all be out of autos though.

    IRD interchangeability

Has anyone tried fitting a V6 IRD into a 4 cylinder petrol or diesel Freelander? As the final drive is in the main gearbox, I presume the only difference will be the drive ratio between the front & rear? Can IRDs originally fitted to the Jatco auto bolt straight onto the PG1 or Getrag manual...

Freelander 1 Value of early 1998 Freelander

Basically! It had the E series engine instead of the A series that was fitted to the 1100. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morris_Nomad http://www.elevenhundred.com/morris1500/

A combination of an inadequate cooling system, hot brakes, and Aussie climate!

Freelander 1 Value of early 1998 Freelander

Yes we used to have Morrises. The last one was a brand new 1500 Nomad. The main problem over here was that the heat from the brakes transferred to the radiator and it would overheat terribly in city traffic.

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1 PG1 gearbox problem

The donor 1.8 Freelander I picked up has already had the IRD removed, so would it be easier to drop the motor and gearbox as one unit rather than just taking off the gearbox?

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1 PG1 gearbox problem

Yes of course. The Castrol technical guru said there wasn't any Active Sulfur and it is safe for bronze, but who knows without getting it tested.

Freelander 1 Value of early 1998 Freelander

Yes it's odd how they are worth more when not as practical. The 2 door Discovery seems to be the next one. The difficulty is the rarest ones are the vehicles that were once cheap as chips. A good example would be the VW Kombi. I do some part time work for a Kombi restoration company and people...

Ok thanks. I'll probably use it up and try Penrite next.

Ok. A shame I already have 20L of the Syntrans for the R380 in the Discovery!

Freelander 1 Value of early 1998 Freelander

I've seen an early 'black door top' 1998 Freelander 1 1.8L for sale with a blown head gasket. It has approximately 140,000 km (87,000 miles) on the clock and is unregistered. Although only 1,500 or so Freelander 1's with black door tops were produced, they haven't reached a collectable status...

    Freelander 1 Freelander 1 PG1 gearbox problem

Thanks for all your replies. I have just picked up a dead Freelander 1.8 to use as a donor car. Re the MTF oil alternatives, I telephoned Castrol, who said the Syntrans oil does not contain Active Sulfur and is safe to use in the Freelander and the R380 gearboxes. However, they don't directly...
