IRD interchangeability

Apparently the V6 IRD will fit the the Getrag box. The cooler pipes are a different shape, and the overall ratio is higher. Front to rear ratio is the same on all 1A chassis onward, FL1s though. ;)

Thanks Nodge. Any idea if the Td4 auto IRD is also compatible with the L-Series? Not sure wether to rebuild the worn out IRD or replace it with a later Td4/V6 IRD they tend to all be out of autos though.

If the gears are all serviceable, then I'd replace all the bearings.
There's no measurements or special tools needed, except a puller.

When my IRD needed some "love", I got a bearing kit from these people...

I got the IRD off and split it - but balked at the task of pulling and pushing all the bearings and getting it right. So I gave the unit and kit to a 'diff shop' here who did the job and I installed it back in the car.

Although the kit included some seals, the diff shop said there were a couple missing that they sourced and also they sourced and installed replacement shims. The IRD has though been working fine for about 3 years now.
The kit also included a new cooler.

Should say, my crown and pinion gears were trashed, so rather than going to the expense of new ones and VCU, I also got the diff shop to remove the crown gear - so it still runs with all the gear attached but only 2WD. The IRD has been fine though.
