L series diesel,Mayo in the coolant

I have lots of mayo in the coolant expansion tank. I have searched the forum already and 1.8 petrols apart have only found reference to this problem on TD4s with blown oil coolers. Has anyone had this prob with the L series. Is it likely to be the oil cooler rather than the head gasket.

    Old newbie

Hi , looks like I need to apologise for not introducing myself much earlier, my pathetic excuse is that I couldnt find where to in the Freelander section. I live in Essex near Southend on Sea, I drive a 1998 Freelander 1 Lseries diesel which has now done 105000 miles.

    Tailgate electrical problems.

Sorry jocarl011 not an answer but problems of my own vis-a-vis tailgate lock. I've done a seach and followed lots of threads but very very few mention the symptoms I am experiencing. Unlock on fob, window stays up, door stays locked. Lower window on internal switch, window goes down, door stays...

Fuel Tank Cradle Show Of Hands

My MOT is due end of March, I would like to have sourced a tank cradle before then. As I posted before, I would be happy to have a re-worked old one.

    My First freelander project. (pictures)

Stupid question from another relative newbie, why can n't steel nuts be used with alloys? Mine had them when I bought it, its had its wheels off at a major tyre dealers and they didnt comment, like wise when it went in for new brake drums and discs, no comment from the mechanic.

    98 freelander ird oil

After checking with LR that it was suitable, I replaced my IRD oil with Swepco 70/90. I had some left over from when I had a Porsche 944 (the front engine ones). This oil is highly recommended among the 944 owners for silencing noisy transaxles. It certainly works on my Freelander. For more...

What Freelander Have you Got Poll

1998 L series 3 door, just turned over 100,000 miles this week. I went looking for a BMW estate in Feb 2012 when my Passat' s dual mass flywheel blew up. While looking around the Missus saw a dark green Freelander and said we'll have that!! It was the bog standard model but now has 2+1 rear...

    Wheel rollers

Have a look at this youtube Busfest 2013 Test your Viscous Coupling on VW Transporter T3 Syncro - YouTube It shows the 4 wd VW camper van vcu test. It should nt be too hard to find out where these rollers came from.

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

When I had the Hankooks fitted the tyre fitter said that they were good tyres BUT he had known of cases where the tread had lifted from the tyre carcass. Also, long time back I had a new tyre develope a blister on the inside tyre wall so I could nt see it. Took weeks to find the cause of a loud...

Have I been driving 2wd for too long????

I've had Hankook Dynapro ATM tyres on my FL1 for over a year now, no problems with them at all. I have also had a recon VCU from Bell for the last couple of months with cheapo bearings and so far so good. Could be one wheel/tyre is not as well balanced as it should be. Is the vibration at all...

    What have I done!

We have a Smart Passion and a Freelander, the Smart gets used a lot around town, the Freebie for longer trips as suggested by Bukko. Also try LV for multicar discount. The Freebie is a 3 door 2.0 TDi not a TD4, early enough to have relatively low road tax, pre banding. I would only change it for...

    I.R.D drain plug ****e....

My '98 2.0TDi had a bit less after 95000 miles. I changed the oil for Swepco 70/90 as I had some left over from my Porsche 944 days. Yes, I did check with LR technical who said if you can afford it it 's the dogs.

    Td4 VCU query??

As VW had 4wd using a vcu well before Freelanders were invented, the following clip on youtube may be of interest Busfest 2013 Test your Viscous Coupling on VW Transporter T3 Syncro - YouTube I have read of people using a trolley jack or similar instead of the rollers. Of course for Freelanders...
