Dragging this thread back up, cars been in storage for 6 months since ive been in OZ just got home last weekend and thought I better sort this out but im still struggling, is there any other solutions anyone may have

yeah possibly, but not too sure how to determine that, It does light the led up etc and the key opens/locks doors and starts the engine. Im guessing theres an immoblisation chip in the key like most other vehicles so thats obviously working.

Thats what im thinking as they do break but apparently its not the electronical part that breaks down its the physical fuctionality so ive been reading on some BMW forums.

No mate, it was to do with the synchronisity between the BCM and the EMS (Aint that right Mozz ;) ) Anyway I know where it is located on the Rave manual but it doesnt mention if its the same on 2005, as far as I knew on the later models they moved it to inside the gearbox so that it sits in...

OK so got home and its definately to do with the gearbox, the wife said it started fine when she used it and now ive just gone out to start it and it started first time no problem, I then went to restart and nothing, messed about with putting it in neutral and got it started, then cut it out...

Yeah it did I think but that's only cos I disconnected battery last night hoping a hard reset would solve my problem! I still maintain its the inhibitor switch in gearbox playing up so I will have to look into that this weekend. I'm not too impressed with all comms so far it has to be said.

Ok just so you all know I unplugged the bcm for a min and then reconnected with batt neg off and then put batt lead back on and it fired, still don't think this was cause of original issue. Will explain more tonight I'm late for work!

Yeah tried all that stuff already last night as I was thinking inhibitor switch too, anyway got the all comms down here this mornin and I had some code about key code so erased that but still no luck, I deffo think the keys gone out of sync, also the comment about not buying a car with 1 key is...
