Surely it's not if the front wheels are down though as the center diff is locked? But I see your point of having three wheels off the ground and the fourth not holding as it would spin in the open diff in the axle.
Regardless, I chock when I lift :D
-
This might end up in me slowly removing parts of the car and going for a spin. Await video of me sliding down a hill on just the seat, noise and wobble still present.
-
Am I right in thinking the centre diff is locked on these things so I can "whip off" the shaft go for drive and see if the wobble/noise goes?
So the random whipping is the check, before I got spend me money :p
-
Those bushes have a lot of play for just you wiggling it by hand :/
have you done the old screwdriver trick to locate exactly where the noise is? (Put screw driver on part and listen to other end)
-
That's not how I roll guys, Diagnose then fix rather than randomly replace.
Anyway the noise has started to subside and it gradually being replaced by a wobble. Pretty sure this is a prop shaft so will whip it off tomorrow and see what I can find.

Thanks everyone for you replies so far
Small Update:
Jacked the front of the car up yesterday and did everything i could think of to check wheel bearings, prop shafts etc. I agree with wammers that the bearings dont have to have play to be noisy saying that mine didnt even hint at having a...

Hello All,
Now i know these types of posts are difficult to answer without seeing the car but none the less i like to brainstorm so here goes.
I have a noise that has the following qualities:
- Only when moving
- Happens at any speed but its related to vehicle speed not engine
- Dipping...

Yeah it was a bit of a red face moment but no damage was done so on to the next thing.
-
Nah, it was locked with the lobes pointing up. What had happened is the crank got turned over 360 so the pin still went in but now the pump was 180 out from the cam.

Hello All,
So if you saw my other threads i recently embarked on a European road trip in a newly acquired P38 2.5 Diesel.
It ended in a mild engine bay explosion in which the bottom of the radiator fell out of love with the rest of the car and ejected itself although i think we pulled over...

OK, just wondered if there was another way around it.

Hello All,
So i recently discovered the head on the P38 2.5 Diesel was cracked.
I will be replacing the head however i don't have any of the special timing tools. I know they can be bought for roughly £50 however i was wondering if i really need them? or is there another method of getting the...
-
yeah so in the hunt for a head, havnt got enough posts to ask on here but anywhere you can think to find one other then the obvious ebay or local scrappy.
I assume the M51D25 out of a e36 or e34 bmw will also work?

The radiator was blown apart, which i don't think was because it over heated but because the system was pressurised by the cylinder. The original overheating when going across the Alps was probably due to my driving and a combo of old radiator/fan. I don't think it helps having so many other...
