Torque converter drain plug?

Should the torque convertor on my 94 300tdi auto have a drain plug?
Reason I ask as while attempting to change the transmission filter I noticed what appears to be a missing drain plug.
If for some reason the plug has come out and I have lost the fluid in there then I wouldnt get any drive would I?

Or is this hole simply for water to drain out?

Eeeerrrrr if you can see your torque converter you got a big problem matey, That will be the wading plug hole, torque converters don't have a drain plug, well ive never come across one that does anyway

I had an idea it was something like that, just thought it worth asking

what youve noticed is wading plug for bell hosing ,like clutch housing, torque convertor housing shouldnt contain oil, any coming out either engine or gearbox leak

No probs matey you put a plug init before going in real deep water (wading) then remove it when finished, well at least thats what your supposed to do

It must be a tdi thing as RRC and D1 V8's auto's don't have wading plugs.

It also appears that even tdi autos don't have a wading plug.

That is because auto bellhousings don't have big holes in them for clutch release levers, and so they can be sealed up all the time.

The plug hole is to stop water getting in ain't it not to let it grain out. I thought once the plug was fitted the bell housing was sealed???

No it ain't its cose it ain't got a clutch in it that would get contaminated with mud and water and then stop working i recon

if thats the case then wth am i looking at, I will try and take a picture .
