Quick question,

If the three amigos are on and lets say you get bogged down in mud. Will the disco still operate in four wheel drive mode?

Had the ball joints on mine replaced and the three amigos have been on ever since, waiting to get the lights reset with the software at the garage.

Yes, the 4x4 is pure mechanical ... it might affect the ETC(electronic traction controll) though. u might have disturbed a sensor then...read the fault code before u erase it, the ball joints have nothing to do with it.

Thanks.

The reason i ask is i got bogged down in 1 foot high mud and water yesterday but only the front wheels.

As i tried to drive out of it the front wheels were spinning but the rear wheels that were on ground with ok grip were not moving at all.

Could the lights cause this?? Or have i got bigger problems? Any tests i can do no ramp and only two axel stands?

Was it in reverse gear then?

sounds right as the centre diff was open, so both front wheels spin, ie wheels with least resitance.Diff lock should have sorted that. Have you lifted the motor and checked you have drive to the rear(I suspect you have)

Your central diff didnt engage then..., ... or your rear diff..., i dont see what tests u could run with two axle stands... u must see if the rear prop is turning or not while the wheels are staying... not good, unlikely but it could have been an ETC misbehaviour which applyed brakes on the rear wheels. Strange.

No driver operated CDL available on standard D2's unless specifically requested from dealer or fitted as an aftermarket job. Normally controlled by ETC so if this has failed you will have no ABS, ETC or HDC, as I have at present due to a failed sensor ! Check page 41-10 of Rave.

first thing the op (and several who have responded) needs to do is understand how the drive system works.

if the front wheels are spinning the centre diff wont send any drive to the rear axle , its supposed to work like that , thats what stops the whole drive train shaging itself on road.

d1 were fitted with a manual lock on the centre diff to send drive to both axles on difficult ground.... on d2 without the manual diff lock the electronics in the traction control do the job by applyin the wheel brakes to the spinning wheels ...... if youve faults in the electronics, abs wheel sensors etc it aint goin to work.

read the instruction book to find out how its supposed to work , so your sure youre pressin the right buttons then get it attached to a garage puter to find the faults.

personally im stickin with the d1 cos my simple brain can handle the manual system

Ok today i jacked up the front of the disco and put it into first gear.

Expecting it to drive off the axel stands..... it didnt. The front wheels spun with nothing moving at the back.

Is this really down to the three amigos being on or have i bigger problems??

as said above you have no diff lock for center diff so its normal that front wheels spin and rear looses drive,t/c should brake spinning wheels but if youve got the three lights on t/c ,abs and h/d arent working ,all three use wheel sensors and brake system to operate

I tried forward and reverse. Just the front wheel spun. Rear wheels didnt move.

To get the traction control to work you need to adopt a particular technique, hold the revs at between 2000 and 2500rpm then it will work. So it sounds like yours it not working as the warning lights are showing.

It depends what the fault is, as to how disconnected the systems are.
