Glow plug snapped in head.

Well,I certainly didnt ask for this one and why does all this sort of crap happen out there in minus temperatures? Already got a thread on the go for battery discharge probs.Anyway the good lady wife treated me to a shiney new set of glow plugs fer me `94 300 disco auto to try and help with my current starting probs. No:1 Plug couldnt believe i had to shift the aircon pump out of the way to get to it.No:2and4 came out ok. No:3 well as i pulled it out with my fingers,i looked and thought "wheres the rest of it?" Shine the torch down the hole and you can just see the plug tip still in there.Tried teasing it out with blue tack then ran out of ideas and it got dark so packed in.It felt like its in there pretty solid and i reckon its been that way a long time.Ive had the motor 8 years and never dealt with the glow plugs before.Anyone had this happen?Dont even mention bad language like the heads gonna have to come off..please..

Bitch of a job...if its stuck heat the bugger up as much as possible then long nosed pliers or whatever can get a grip on it..i left mine overnight with a load of wd40 on it to help loosen...good luck!

If its tight and not leaking compression why not leave it until warmer weather. 300tdi should start fine on 3 glow plugs.

The tip must be carbon or something coz when i tried it on one of the others that i took out,it were`nt magnetic. Long nose pliers? i could`nt even get missus tweezers down that tiny hole...

Tried to run with 3..loadsasmoke from under battery tray..turned it off kwik.Think something touched and earth strap got busy.

Did you insulate the cables from the No3 plug? If these touch earth (bare metal) its bad news.
You would need a cable fom No2 to No4 plug to run on three plugs, also the feed cable would need to be connected (prob to No2 or No1).

You've not tried it with 3, you've let the loose +12V wire touch the block, or something. Wrap it in insulation tape. There is no earth strap, they earth through the engine block.

bit rough, but run with 3 in, cover knacked one with a heavy rag (and insulate that connector). the compression might blow it out.
would do it with bonnet shut too!
failing that, head off job.

Forgot to mention - always disconnect the battery before working on glow plugs. If you have a faulty relay (re your other thread) the cables could still be live, even when the ignition is off.
Try running without the glow plug relay, if it starts it may solve both your probs until warmer times.
