Worth Restoring?

Hi Guys

ive bought this series 2 lwb, no numberplate or v5 but im not too worried about that.

is it worth my time and money to restore, as ive never had a LWB and id love one

its the 2.25 diesel, no rear crossmember and unknown chassis at the moment, bulkhead is bad but i have a good friend who runs a fabrication company so repairs wont be too costly

ideas?

"Repairs wont be too costly" .. You've not been into Landrovers long then? ;)

Looks to me like it needs a new chassis anyway, the springs or hangers look like they're dead, or the chassis just can't support them anyway ... Other than that, it might only need a bit of T-cut and elbow grease .. :)

haha only like 7 years now, i was thinking a roll of kitchen foil and some duct tape and she will be a good-un!
 
before you get into cutting and repairing that motor i'd suggest getting in touch with Dave Dutton of the Series2 club, he's the club VRO and will advise you on the procedure you need to follow if you want it correctly registered on an age related plate

the Series2 club are the recognised authority with DVLA in identifying these old motors and getting them correctly registered/identified

i really wouldn't put a spanner to it until taking correct advice as you could if not careful find yourself with having it put on a Q plate and having to pay VED

p.s.
i was watching that one and would have been tempted if the distance hadn't been so great and i didn't already have three Series to occupy my time
 
Got to be worth a go :) Im after another 88" off a guy in work whos refusing to sell even though its been standing 10 years with a siezed perkins. If I get it, I have plans for it

You should put a crane on the back of yours, they look good as a recovery truck :)
 
Good grief, that's total scrap, don't even go near it unless you're intending to spend 6-10k plus over a couple of years and basically build a new landrover using a few token parts from it like axle tubes and few body panels, it hasn't even got an ID as you said. You won't be able to unbolt bits off it, only cut.

However if you're up for the journey....

use buckly brothers are great value I used them on all my projects, laugh toooooo costly indeed twit!!!!!

have to say in that condition and with no id I would pass it by, plenty of moving and mot'd ones sell on ebay every week that you could do a rolling resto on for which the overall cost would be less than the thousands you would need to bring that one on the road.

I have no idea how competent you are mechanically etc, but a full resto on that would certainly be a labour of love for the well skilled.

Its most definitely your decision but if you do rise to the challenge I can assure you that taking such a vehicle and watching it gradually change from its present state into something that earns admiration from the gentlemen on this forum will give you a very great amount of pleasure ! After two hours of getting it onto my trailer, and securing it, the front axle let go from the leaf springs, the rear front spring mounts collapsed and the chassis broke in half. well maybe not a resto project on this one but it will happily supply me with lots of hard to get spars for my 2A 88 so all is not lost, although if anyone needs a 109 tub this one is in useable condition
 
get Christmas out of the way first though ****EST time of the year!! but after that give it a go I mean it doesn't have to be rushed,

a Land Rover's done by labour of love and that mean's time. so take a deep breath and go for it, CRAZY FOOL!! lol but seriously I've seen worst. if interested in sale I would be happy to maybe buy if price was right PM me if you do decide to sell thanks.
