Good evening,

So after moving to Wiltshire 3 years ago and seeing the convoys of land rovers whilst walking my dog on the plain I finally went home fired up the eBay app and immediately I got in to a bidding war and fell for swb series 2a which "looked" the part.... inevitably I over paid for a series 2a that I had no idea what I was looking for/at!!!

Anyway too much money later that was it I was the proud owner of a bronze green originally a marine blue 1969 SWB series 2a 2.25 petrol and a man in Dorset couldn't believe his luck at what he just sold.....

That was 6 months ago
Since then it's has the following
Weber carb
New leaf spring hangers
Welding-obviously
New oils
Plugs/leads
Seals various
Rad cap
Rad overflow track sorted
Alternator
Wipermotor
Gaskets-various-still leaking-obviously
Propshafts
Full exhaust
Clutch servo/slave
Halogen headlight conversion
Gear selector tinkering
And much much much more.....

The chassis is a patchwork quilt with the gearbox crossmember sporting a massive bend/dent and the doors are on their last legs-I didn't realise the inside of doors could look that bad, it gets worse.... the bulkhead isn't looking too clever and I fear a multitude of bodgery has taken place...it's not all doom and gloom the engine is brilliant and drives surprisingly well, I love driving(bouncing) around the lanes of Wiltshire, not so much off roading as I don't think the tyres and my skill level will cope!

The plan this year is to use it as much as possible and enjoy it this summer all 2 days of it with the roof off and carry on the corrective maintenance. On completion of the summer or earlier if the chassis/bulkhead/doors or any other number of possible failures happen it's getting the full strip down!

If the GF doesn't find my secret stash I'll be going for a Galvanised chassis, bulkhead and doors and all the other bits worth doing at the same time!! In a perfect world I'm telling myself back on the road for 2019........

So with my sins explained I'll be looking here for tips, friendly advice and some laughter at my expense if anything you can all sit back knowing someone bought a worse landrover than yourselves.

Thanks chaps!

I'll have more photos as the work gets more serious...interesting....frustrating and ultimately more expensive.

Have search and read of the other threads, @LincolnSteve has a great resto thread that's been going a while ...

But there are lots of others, any questions ask away, but usually start a new thread then the answers won't get lost in the muddle ...

Is this a current thread? Date of first post is 2018? Anyway just in case here's a link to my tale of disasters. https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/steves-unexpected-series-3-rebuild.292955/ Thanks to @Dippypud for the diplomacy in saying it's been going on a while. 9 years I think which is bloody ridiculous. Currently involved with another big project for day job number 2 so there goes at least another month where I won't get near the landy. Galvanised everything is definitely the way to go. I couldn't possibly afford that so had to do it the daft way, hence the 9 years.
