Hi all another L322 question, sorry

Does anybody know if a UK 2003 L322 Vogue would have Xenon/HID headlights as standard? Or were they an option?

Are the headlights completely different between the two, or is it just a case of different bulbs and ballast units etc. for the HID?

Tried searching all over the place but can't find a non-US-based summary of spec by model year

TIA for your help... could be a few more L322 posts coming from me over the next few days!!

Cheers

Jerry

AKAIK all Vogues were Xenons....

But in saying that, the L322 (Like Late P38's) where sold like most BMWs as a basic vehicle then options picked from a list....

So you can get a HSE with all the toys from the Vogue.....

So a Base Vogue could have Xenons as standard, but be fitted with Halogens as an option if the buyer wanted them changed....

Makes picking a vehicle difficult, best to find one you like regardless of 'name' with the toys you want!

Way to tell is the presence of the ballast and leveling motors...also when switched on, the Xenons strike first with a dim greeny/blue them within a couple of seconds form a white light.

All vogues will have xenon's as standard

I haven't ever seen any vogue without

The only model that won't have them as standard is the SE model

Its very easy to identify if it has them or not

Just by looking at the front of the lights they are totally different

The xenon's have the round projector lense, the halogens obviously don't

Tbh the L322 looks pants without them
Plus the light output out of halogens isn't good

I had a Pug 407 Comapny Car with Halopgen Lamps and Projector Lenses!

Seen a few halogen units for sale on eBay but despite the problems with them the xenons are a much better light , never seen an l322 for sale with halogens though

Thanks all for the very helpful input

I should have clarified why I am asking - I need a set of LHD headlamps so I can register a RHD L322 here in France (need them for the MOT).

I am not too fussed whether I have xenons or not per se

Looking a bit further on eBay etc., the xenon headlamp units seem pretty self contained with ballast etc built in, do you think halogen units could be fitted in place of xenons without loads of blown bulb etc. warnings coming up? There seem to be a few halogens for sale but no xenons...

Loads of xenon lights on the uk's eBay site

I wouldn't go changing things. Keep them standard

With Halogen non projector headlights it's easy enough to mod them to pass the French CT, I've done quite a few on different marques:)

Check in the handbook, I remember seeing something about being able to switch over the headlights from LHD to RHD just by moving a lever within the headlamp unit. Will try and find the info later, cos am at work at the moment

Not heard/read that before - just had a brief scan through RAVE can't seem to find any reference to this! Intrigued if you find something!

Changing xenons from rhd to lhd is a shutter inside each head light along side the lamp holder sure it's mentioned in the manual

from rave
"A beam adjustment mechanism is located between the reflector and the adapter ring. This mechanism rotates to blank
off a portion of the beam spread to enable the vehicle to be driven in opposite hand drive markets without applying
blanking decals to the headlamp lens. The beam is changed by removing the access cover at the rear of the lamp
assembly and moving a small lever located near the bulb holder, at the side of the reflector"

+1 this is in the handbook

Yep, that's the one!! Didnt get home till late last night..had a hard day at work, so got beaten to it!!

Still, nice to know I was able to contribute something useful for once...LOL

Well I now have the L322 - will review it in another thread - it does have xenon lights, and I have found the levers inside them despite not being able to find any mention of them in the user handbook.

It is clear that the levers just blank the high part of the beam so the light is now clipped both left and right sides. Will be interesting to see what the Controle Technique people think about this....

I haven't investigated enough yet to see if non-Xenon lights can be fitted instead without major mods, need to take one of the lights out for that, which means trying to find my RAVE CD......

Cheers

Jerry
