Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am after a discovery to do some offroading and green laning. Which one do i go for as i dont know what the difference is. The 200TDi or the 300TDi? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Pugrocket

the 300 is generally a better vcar over the 200 series but they both will do the job its the body work and boot floor you need to check .

thanks. I dont want to spend much on one. only a couple of hundred. where is the best place to get one?

a couple of hundred? on summat that greenlane worthy? your aiming to but scrap then?
if you do find one for £200 it aint gonna last long laning believe me :D

I dont necessarily mean £200. i dont really know what a fair price is. I dont mind doing the usual welding and other little jobs etc. its more of a project then offroading.

in that case, if you can and know how to do the welding... go for something with mot failure due to rusted boot floor or inner wings....

it will be cheaper

Well thats what i was thinking, hence a couple of hundred pounds. But i dont want a complete shed lol. I just dont really know a fair price but i suppose it all depends on the individiual vehicle?

i was looking at spending 4 to £500 on summat that needed some work but decided to spend more time looking round and ended up with a 200tdi t&t its got decent wheels/tyres, lifted, sliders, s/guard, diff guard.. basically stuff that wud come in handy for laning/off roading, engine/box are good and strong and i paid £775 for it which i reckon for what its got and how much it'd cost to repair one and add the mods was a good price however sat'day nite laning and the front caliper broke and alternator packed up so thats another £120 but part and parcel of laning i supose

But that could have happened in a £2k car?

oh yes, normal maintenance lol, my point being spend time shopping round and you'll find summat that fits the bill and budget, buying an mot failure could end up costing more than summats thats ready to go and without the time n hassle :)

I see what you mean :). As i say though i want one as a bit of a project, so if it needs the usual welding etc then i dont mind so much. But like you say its just finding the right balance
