Hi, I have just brought my self a freelander 2.0 diese, it's a year 2000 so I'm guessing that's freelander 1, you'll have to excuse my ignorance as I'm new to these landy's,

My problem is that my wheels and tyres are 195/80r15, but I would like to fit the largest profile tyre on possible, all I can find in the 15's are 215/75r15, is there Any other tyres that will fit onto 15's or is there any way I can get 16's on as I have noticed I can get a larger profile in these

If it helps I will be putting a 2inch lift kit on to give more clearance

Hi and welcome to LandyZone.

Your question is ambiguous.

What do you mean by 'larger' profile? Do you mean higher or lower?

Do you want wider section tyres?

Your 195/80 15 tyres are 'larger' profile than the 215/75 15 tyres, if you mean higher.

What exactly do you mean?

Perhaps you should have a close look at an explanation of what all the numbers on the side of a tyre mean.

Sorry everyone, what I mean by larger profile is the size of the side wall, I also would like the tyres to be wider than they are,
The reason why is that I just think that the wheels and tyres just look to small and out of place on the freelander, don't get me wrong I love the look of the freelander I just would like to do the finnishing touches to suit my style,

OK.

With 15" wheels you could fit 215/75 15 tyres or 215/80 15 tyres. Any wider a tyre will rub against the front spring bottom cups.

With 16" wheels the possibilities are huge but no wider than 215 unless you go for lower profile tyres.

With 17" wheels you're limited as to the number of brands available I believe.
The standard size is 225/55 17 tyres but I have 235/55 17s with about 7 or 8mm clearance which is the minimum to allow the tyres to flex a bit on hard cornering.

Now if you want to fit spacers ............

Then you have to think about the gearing..........

You could do a PhD post grad on this subject.

Does anyone recommend these as a good all round on and off road?
 
I agree they look alright, but I personally have opted for a decent set of all terrain, Yokohama Geolanders. Excellent tyres for road and green laning, even impressed me on a wet muddy grassy field after a local classic car show.

Although some would argue the need for mud tyres on a freelander due to the way the viscous coupling/traction control works. I.e it requires one of the front wheels/tyres to spin,loose grip, to engage the rotational drive to the rear wheels via the viscous coupling. Mud tyres may be too grippy for the front putting excessive strain on the front drive train.

Only the views i have read from many,many other posts about tyres, freelanders and sizes.

I've never tried mud tyres so had to "research", in all freedom of choice is great so its up to you.

I have just been through this!

15" tyres are either V. expensive, or wont fit...

16" alloys, and 205/80R16 tyres. Give an extra few inches of ground clearance, huge selection available, prices seem reasonable.
