Will do!

They are sending a photographer out.
I hope he's driving a Disco 2!

They say it is definitely going to be in the paper tomorrow.

The Sunday Post.

The photographer turned up in an Astra.
How he managed to reach my place is a mystery.
He got stuck in my place. Nice lad really.
He had no idea about the towing eye ... but he does now!

He took many snaps of me posing with shovel, tow-rope and Disco TD5

What fun!

Guid yin charlesy, ye'd be hard pushed tae beat the AT2's. Had thum on a couple o' years now and nae probs;)
Ah'll look oot fur ye the morn in the papers;):D

I wish we could get hold of the guys who were taking videos of the tows from in their cabs.

When I had one of the 7½ tonners moving nicely, we came upon three cars that had set off nose-to-tail who were stuck AGAIN, half way up the slope, in the left lane, and jammed up against each other. What idiots. They had been asked to wait till I got the wee truck clear, but they were experts who didn't need any advice or help. They had also been told to keep a LONG space between their cars - let the one in front make it all the way, THEN set off after him, but NO, they knew better. I moved out into lane two with the truck trailing behind on the rope because stopping seemed like a BAD PLAN right there, and went sailing past the three cars, Disco with truck-on-a-rope up to the roundabout and over the brow to the flat where I was unhooking them. The wee truck driver didn't know whether to laugh or what. He just could not believe what had just happened. He had phoned his boss who said there was no way a Land Rover could tow the truck up that slope, and they would get it sorted in the morning. HA HA! Discos Rule!

I have to say, even I was impressed. How those tyres gripped like that was simply unbelievable. Low range and 4wheel drive with traction control is truly impressive. That was the first time I had put it to a real test.
The TD5 Disco changes the throttle pedal response in Low Range to make the pedal more gentle to your big boot, and this helps to cut down wheel-spin and ABS traction control braking. Very clever, and worked like a charm.

Lots of folk got home that night who were facing a cold night otherwise.

Five hours of good fun for the Disco!

The article was fine.

Sometimes they overdo it too much.

It was OK.

Nice going Charles:)

Funnily enough my car has 2 towing eyes in it. 1 under the spare wheel in the boot and the other in a welly boot in the top of the boot. The missus knows this too so it can be easily accessed if she should get stuck.

I always think the towing eye should be in the driver's door pocket, wrapped in a hi-vis yellow vest to stop it rattling about.

In the event of breakdown or getting stuck, the sooner the car can be hoicked out of harm's way, the better. That means put the yellow vest on, and fit the tow-eye smartish.

Did your car come with two eyes, or did you acquire a second one specially?

Maybe after some drivers readin' the article will go and make sure they have a towing eye... and where it is;):D

Hey Guys,

It was only that I was the lucky one who found the mess first!

After that it was just fun!

Oh yes, I didnt hear a single bad word about gas-guzzling four-by-fours all that night!

By the way boys, I have HUNDREDS of those polypropylene ropes here.

They have plain ends, and are fifteen feet long.
Breaking strain is supposed to be 4 - 5 tons they say
Anyone who knows how to do eye-splices should get some of these.
A small eyesplice loop at one end that you push down over your towball, and a D-shackle at the other end for the tow-eye where the clot is.

I reckon I should get £1 for each rope.

If there was any demand, I could fill a cardboard box with them and send to someone who could distribute them.

Someone with time and nimble fingers could splice the ends and ebay them for a tenner each!

Sounds like a business, I can splice and teach scouts how to, fancy learning? 15 mins to learn

Offer to any one to learn, or I will do splices for people if they want?

any wagon driver worth there salt should be able to splice ropes... i was shown 30 years ago by mi dad.. can still do em when the need arises..
i have a mate that used to live in Douglas.. used to be up yr way quite often..
she moved south of the border a couple years ago..
well done with the rescues.. very impressive..
