What size is the star socket needed for gearbox fill level plug?

What year of discovery is it? The D1 had both the LT77 & R380 gearboxes fitted to them dependant upon year. I'll crawl about under my discos tomorrow as I've got a 300tdi R380 box on the mez deck at my workshop, an LT77 in my D1 v8 & a later R380 in my D2 TD5, so once I know which vehicle, I'll throw a socket on it and get back to you.

Thanks, the gearbox is a R380, so Disco 1 about 1991 year. It has a weird star insert, so something like a star shaped allen key seems favourite. I have been able to find the actual filler level plug, but no actual tool to get it out with. Look forward to hearing from you.

Can anyone tell me what size the star socket is for the gearbox fill level plug on Discover 1 gearbox?
T55 Torx. Halfords sell them or did🤔
Or in eBay at a quarter of the price.

You are an absolute star!! Thank you so much, just ordered one from Ebay.
I'll let you know how we get on. We have used a donor vehicle to transplant the V8 engine and gearbox into our defender. So a lot of the parts we use aren't necessarily the right age for the vehicle. Someone had already started the conversion before we got it, which makes it even more difficult to know what we are working with. Thanks again.

Ninjad - I had just logged in to reply to this thread with that answer as promised, and you'd beaten me to the punch. Glad the OP got their answer though. I can confirm it's a t55, not an eroded t50 or scaled up t60 as the box I checked is pretty fresh.
