Yep I've got vr1 in it and was generous with it when i installed the camshaft and lifters

If/when i find a loose push rod, should i be replacing the lifter? Or taking it out and cleaning it?

Should i be ordering a Victor reinz head gasket, or can you suggest any other? Where's a good place to buy from?

Rimmer Bros

Ebay..

Etc..

New tappets if one or a few have collapsed.

What cam and lifter arrangement did you use?

Brand?

Rover 3.5 was a good engine until they started playing with it. If you want to see a crap V8 look at a Triumph Stag unit.
I think the original Buick Skylark 3.5 was pretty bulletproof (by most accounts) and was only devalued in reliability-terms by the boring out for the extra CC to move the 2Tonnes of a Rangie.
Mind you...if they hadn't, it would be as slow as the Diesel ;)

If they had kept the equipment in decent order and used better liners to start with them there would never have been the issues. IMHO

The some Rover V8 castings were inherently poor, the water jackets are off centre in the block, when it's overheated the thin wall cracks, liner drops etc

Look at the Tappet bores for example, some have machine marks some don't etc..

Coscast blocks were pretty good.

If you can find them.

nowt much to do with liners, in regard to the fragility of some.
