The speedo in my 2a 109 wasn't working. I found that the inner cable had snapped part way down so it needs replaced. Here are some pictures of each end, as you can (hopefully) see the ends are square.

It is a series 3 gearbox I believe but looking at parts it seems that neither 2a's or 3's had these square ends??

If it's a IIa speedo will be in the center of the bulkhead, not in front of the driver so the cable will be shorter.

I also think series II/IIa cables screwed onto the speedo via the collar in the pic whereas series III clipped on with a plastic bit - though I prepare to stand corrected :)

Plenty of II/IIa speedo cables on feebay for about a fiver

Speedo is in the center of the bulkhead, it's just the gearbox that's from a series 3 I think.

The pictures are of my current broken cable. The problem is that the ones on eBay have a different end (i.e not square).

The collar does indeed screw onto the speedo.

Britpart cables often are not squared sufficient and end up having to be hammered to get it to drive.
Haver a look inside your speedo head should be able to see a square hole.

I fitted a new cable and took it out for a test. I think the highest it got to was 20mph and I was definitely going faster than that. Any ideas?
I only have 2 of the 3 screws that hold it on at the gearbox end but it seems secure enough.

Remove rear prop from brake drum and check the nut underneath prop is tight , speedo drive gear is just nipped between bearing etc by this nut.
remember to chock front wheels as you will have no handbrake.
The actual drive at gear box end can be removed by removing the two larger screws behind the cable securing plate ,so that you can check it is engaging the speedo end correctly you will need to have an oil receptical if you do as some of oil will drain out.

Thanks for the help. Any idea on torque for that nut? Or will my usual "pretty tight" be good enough? I have had a look at the workshop manual but can't find it.

Edit: Found it. 85lb/ft. Will give it a go.
