To be more specific it's a left hand drive 300 tdi

I haven't seen one with the cylinder head temp gauge on top like that before

As I said I dont know these engines.
But also seems to be a funny cover plate on the timing cover. Looks adjustable, for the injection pump??

on my
D1 that cover plate is the slide used for the aircon belt tensioner
and I have removed that on occasion to access the 3 bolts holding the timing belt pulley to advance or retard the injector pump timing while experimenting

You can double check by looking at the exhaust manifold, 200tdi exits rearwards at an angle, 300tdi exhaust pipe goes straight down from the manifold

It's origional, and I'm building a new cylinder head for it as the gaskets gone on cyl no 3. I've poeted and polished it and modified the valves to to improve flow and efficiency. But yours looks like a 300tdi, the disco has some ancillary differances but yours looks like a 300 to me, also because you have a serpentine belt, and I thought 200 has V belts. Although the airbox is different, so maybe your engine was changed
