Hey everyone

I've got an opportunity to buy a Y plate Freelander for a reasonable price, it's a top spec model, ES TD4, with most of the electrics working, just the odd thing to look at (Reverse lights not working, the infamous collection of water in the rear safe box area, probably a brake pad / shoe change as the car has been sitting for a while, rear brakes seized, now freed up). Now, I'm handy-ish with a spanner, and will give most jobs bar stripping a gearbox down a go, but am just wondering whether it's even worth buying in the first place, with some of the horror stories I've read! Any feedback would be appreciated guys and gals.

Cheers

i had a freelander for a month. diesels arnt that bad but i would never touch a petrol one. as long as brakes arnt massivly corroded you should be able to get away with light braking for a while. not sure about other two but sure one of the helpfull guys on here will have some advice

Wots wrong wi petrols?

Crock do a search on the faults and make your own mind up.
Listening to what we have to say is just going to cloud your judgement.:)

And then with any car purchase you pays your money and takes yer chance.

Hi , As for the reversing lights mine didnt work when it came from the garage where it had a new clutch fitted , i noticed the rev lights not working [ they had been before it went in] the garage denied all responsibility so i looked into it myself and what they had done , when removing gearbox they had removed the 1st gear sensor but not the reverse gear sensor so had pulled the wire out which i later found to be under the battery tray , connected up and back came the lights , its a black multi way connector if you feel under battery tray you will find it . This is presuming all the bulbs/fuses etc are ok .
Hope this helps

Guys, thanks a bunch for all the replies. I will be buying the Freelander, and as was said, take my chances. It seems like a solid runner, with one of the smoothest diesels I've heard in a while on start up. A good clean, some TLC and a good perusal of this informative site should see me right I reckon!! Just need to shift the Rav now.................

Thanks once again :)
