Have a '86 Grand Wag with a steering wheel that wobbles. Am told it's a
long job to access the nuts to tighten it.
Could I use a Dremel and cut away the plastic tunnel to get at the nuts
& bolts?

No, they are way down inside. While tedious, it's not that bad a job
- pull the wheel, remove the tilt and light switches, then pull the
pins that hold the tilt pivot. After that, you can reach the 4 bolts.
I actually pulled all of them completely out and used tread locker on
them (blue, so there was at least a chance of getting them out if I
had too. Took all morning, but there was nothing really dificult
about it since I had the wheel pullers and such on hand.

Oops, I take that back - threading the wiring back down the shaft was
a PITA - you might want to tie a pull cord to them as you pull them
out to guide them back in.

Wobbles? Huh?

Tell me more? When moving only? When stopped too?

You could be describing loose mounting bolts. but you could be
describing a serious problem with the steering system as well.

More information please, and in the interium be very careful driving
this vehicle. <g>

Ah! Right.

I have access to a wheel-puller, so it's just a matter of time then.

Cheers for that

PS It's not being driven, just restored. New engine/trans etc. And I
noticed the steering wheel moved up and down while parked... but thanks
also for the concern!
