Valve collets

Those of you that have changed valves etc what way did you find best to refit the valve collets back on the valve stem? Did you use a long thin screwdriver with grease to hold the collet as they look a bugger to get back on the valve stem with the valve head being so recessed into the head. Any other ideas ?

i use a magnetic screw driver well used to have not done one for a while but try one and then also use a none magnetic one to hold the collet in place as you remove the magnetic one ,would not use grease just incase you miss a bit and then it can clog up a oil jet

use fine forceps or long reach tweezers
tiny smidgen of grease to stick it to the valve shaft , it will burn itself off

Hi Thanks ,I did read your how to above good idea for a spring compressor I already had one so no need to make one it was just seeing how small the collets are when you get them out (I've got 4 valves out so far not got my head off to see how many are damaged) i was wondering how to get them back in and staying in place whilst the tension on the spring was released.I have just enough room to get by the Sedona(same engine as the freelander V6 but with differences) in the the garage to get to my benches which seeing as the wife would go daft if I even suggested the kitchen table like you . I'll let you know how I get on.
