hi all, i took my series 2 off road yesterday for the first time, and what a little gem. i spent most of the time dragging other trucks out of ditches, (v8 power)
had a really good day and the 50 year old beast never missed a beat ! however, on the drive home it was making a few noises that it wasnt making before i tore up the field. it still runs perfect but the engine soiunds like a bag of s&*t !
im i will be doing a service to try and cure the noise but as im new to this, im wondering if you could give any tips to make the motor run more smooth and quite. its a 3.5lt rover v8.

any help on this would be great help as i am a novice, and now hooked on off roading and cant wait to get back out there.
thanks

ian

it sounds really tappity and course. before the rant in the field it was smooth and quite, i have just done an oil change with some good quality 20/50 mineral oil, and it seems to of helped, but there is still a squeaking noise coming from the pullys. oh and my lovely v8 rumble from the exhaust doesnt seem as loud and nice as before , (that may just be my ears after having it screaming all day).

Have you steam cleaned all the mud off everything ?
Check things like air intake and it's firing on all cylinders
Clean out dizzy cap
