Hi.. I have a 1994 (m-Reg) discovery ES and the sound system is pretty crappy.. I have a dvd/cd head unit.. And I have a kenwood cd head unit before that.. Im presuming it to be the speakers that sound crap.. They sound really tinny, and hardly put out the bass frequency at all.. Any ideas what I can do to make this sound better?

replace your speakers is a good start, 4" in the front doors and 4" in the rear. when you changed your head unit did you get the adaptor to keep your subs in the rear door working? if not then you could try getting your origional subs working again. failing that get a sub and an amp. you can either get small 8" active subs in relatively small boxes, or if you really like bass then get a Vibe 12" active sub box - it'll rattle ya windows!!

Thanks for your reply..

Subs in the rear door??? I didnt even know there was some.. so guess not.. What do i need to replace at the head unit end to make these work??

I fitted kenwood speakers to front and back and found them to be a bit too bassy, that might just be my taste in music (metal)
I retro fitted a pair of tweeters on the bottom of the front pillars as they meet the dash and that cured it, as the kids dont appreciate the loud music i have set it to 70% front and it sounds the bollox.

im unsure cause when i changed me head unit i got a sub and amp so didnt bother with the origionals. from what i understand - there are 2 speakers in the rear door that are amplified (subs) and when you change the head unit there is no longer any feed to these speakers. there is a lead to re-power and feed these speakers, Autoleads make it i think. go into any decent car shop and they'll tell you exactly what you need and will probably have it in stock.

If you have a sub pre-amp output from your head unit then you will need a lead like this for the audio, plus also the power supply and the amp switching supply.

Right... I have checked behind the head unit and behind the sub at the rear door.. All I have at the head unit was a spare plug, that I cut off, so now have 2 loose wires (1 red and 1 black) these were in a long flat plug when the old landy unit was in.. At the other end I have a square multi plug, with 6 wires in.. 1 red, 2 black, 1 purple/yellow, 1 green, and 1 with bare wire with a loose black sheath over it.. the last 2 are providing a 12v feed which is live.. what else do I connect up to get it working?

The the twin cabled pug yu cut off with black & red wires go to the subwoofer in the backdoor you can buy the adaptor on ebay for a couple of quid. Basically a phono plug with 2 wires coming out of it.
