On sunday I set about to do some work on my Disco.

My aim was to install an Auxillary battery in the boot using the caravan electrics and put the passenger window back into the runners.

So, when I installed my Auxillary battery into the boot of my freelander, it was relatively simple. I took the interior panel off the boot and found the relavant wire and relay. I then hooked up the battery charger wire from the caravan electrics onto the battery, job done. This worked really well. (See Thread Here)

I thought I would be able to do the same with the Disco ... I was wrong.

I took the boot seat out, then took the rear boot panel off the drivers side, only to find that there was not any wiring. ?!?!?

Hugh?? but that is where it was in the freelander!

So, I followed the wires up under the car and saw that they went up under the rear light, so I whipped the light cluster off and found them. hooray!

I found the blue wire (battery charger wire) and put my multimeter on it, started the car, and nothing! there was no charge!

I then tested the battery charger wire in the caravan socket, there was 12.5 volts.

This didn't add up, the actual socket had 12v, but the wire behind the light had nothing.

I then found out that the socket had a constant live feed for the fridge, the battery charger, and the 12v pin, when the car was turned off!!!

This is not right i thought, and to cut a long story short, I managed to find that a wire straight from the battery under the bonnet had been bodged straight into the wires for the socket, giving the socket a constant live feed, when the car is off, and without any relay or regulator.

Great, so the previous owner had bodged the caravan electrics!! so I now have to sort that out.

This will now have to be a job for another day as I need to buy a new battery charging kit.

So, i put everything back together and moved onto the passenger window.

This should of been an easy fix, whip the door panel off, put window back into the the runner, job done!

Well, the actual window mechanism has broke, the metal scissor lift thing is all bent, and some parts have actually snapped.

So, I now have to buy a new window mechanism and fit that, again on another day.

So I didn't managed to get anything done, and felt like I had wasted a whole Sunday afternoon.

The End.
